Linkin Park Live Guide - 2001 Summary

Summary: Linkin Park began 2001, which turned out to be their biggest touring year ever, with an appearance on the Conan O Brien show, performing One Step Closer in January. After playing a secret promo show in Paris, LP played a few more European promo shows and then headlined their first tour ever, the Street Soldiers Tour, back in the USA. The band then supported the Deftones, and then played their first major European shows. After that, they headed back to the States for a few shows and then back to Europe again to play at the famous Rock am Ring and Rock im Park Festivals.

Linkin Park soon afterward played their first ever Australia and Asia shows, which proved to be major successes for them. They came back to the US and played on Ozzfest, which really gave the band a taste of how hard it is to win over crowds. After headlining more European shows in September, the band came back and played on the Family Values Tour with the Stone Temple Pilots. The band closed the year off by headlining their own Countdown to Revolution Tour and then by playing a few holiday radio shows, the final two being both nights at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas 2001 show, where the band played their first ever acoustic songs. Highlights for 2001 include the premiere of a few songs like Crawling and Pushing Me Away live, and included a few awkward moments including Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit dumping beer all over Chester at the bands night show at Rock im Park, and also Brad playing on the Family Values Tour with a broken ankle. The song Step Up, off of the Hybrid Theory EP, made a debut as well.

Canceled shows from 2001 include two February dates in Portugal, where the band could not secure proper travel visas, and a Hamburg date that was canceled due to September 11th. Otherwise, the year went really well for the band and they were able to spread word about their CD, therefore gaining thousands of fans across the globe.
